POLLY TISDALL
AFTER HAPPILY EVER
In this eclectic collection of tales from around the world, Polly brought together stories of women who keep adventuring beyond their wedding day and who refuse to be boxed up.
Not maidens. Not crones. Not (necessarily) Mothers - these are heroines who are too busy to live happily ever after when the church bells stop ringing.
From peasant girls to princesses, fishwives to Queens, they demand the right to keep risk-taking, rule-breaking, cross-dressing, mistaking, hoodwinking and life-tasting - quite despite being somebody’s wife.
Perhaps they know what Happily Ever After truly looks like.
Performed for Towersey Folk Festival 2019 & Birmingham Storytelling Cafe 2023.
